I’ve always loved traveling.
For really as long as I can remember, I’ve had the great fortune to have been on several trips — both via road trips and plane rides. And as far as I know, I’ve always loved them.
I used to go to Minnesota every summer
to visit my godparents and other extended family. That stopped as I got older, but my love for traveling and seeing new places didn’t.
As I type this in it’s draft form, I’m sitting in a hair salon before work. I’m mostly packed for my latest adventure. I’ll get home from work around midnight, and then at 5:30 the next morning Ben will drop me off at the airport. (I’m sure when I post this Thursday I will be very well caffeinated.) If you’re reading this (as long as it’s before Monday) I’m in Los Angeles.
That’s the fun thing about the way I approach this blog. I like to draft my posts the day before to give them a minute to breathe in case I change my mind on how I word things. That, and it reduces the chances I’ll procrastinate or have a surplus of typos. This time around, my blog schedule falls right in line with a period of excitement for me. As I drafted this, I’m less than 24 hours away from something my college roommates and I have been planning and looking forward to for months. I draft this knowing that when I reread and publish it, I’ll be on vacation, in a fun and exciting city I’ve never been to, and surrounded by friends I’ve missed dearly.
There’s something so beautiful about excitement. I’m not wishing away the time I have today. I don’t resent the fact that a day at work is between me and the airport. If anything, I’m just so happy that I have the opportunity to travel and to visit loved ones. I’m thankful that my friends from college weren’t just that. That might be where we met and spent our time together, but we all graduated and we’re still close. I’m thankful, to say the least.
So when I post this, I’ll be with these people. And they can make fun of me for being sappy on my blog. And I’ll welcome that, because I’ll be/I am at the start of a wonderful long weekend away.
