Having an 'off' week

This week was a bit off for me. I was exhausted at the beginning of the week, so I found myself sleeping later and not having time to accomplish all my goals before work each day. In truth, the things on my list that I didn't get to were pretty minor things — like folding the laundry before work vs. after or squeezing in an at-home yoga practice — but it's hard not to take it personally when it happens multiple days in a row.

Sometimes, though, we just need to give ourselves a break, a time to say "my body or my mind just can't cash the checks that I'm writing today" and to allow ourselves to be less than perfect.

Weeks like these are actually the exact reason I tried my best to make my New Year's Resolutions very attainable this year — I've found in the past that when I settle for nothing less than perfect, it's really easy to abandon things altogether when you start to slip. So I'm trying not to see missed goals this week as a sign of my resolutions ending. In the near future, whether it's tomorrow, the next day or the next after that, I'll be back at it.

I think it's important to have patience with yourself. We can't control everything around us, just how we respond to it all. So when the world doesn't seem to agree with your plans, don't see it as a sign of defeat, take a moment, reassess, and adapt.
