One week later...

Exactly one week ago, Ben and I moved to our new place together. I had the day off today, so I was able to finally run all the errands I haven't had time to do since the big move last week. I got back home around 4:30 p.m. — determined to make progress at making our new home feel even more like a home.

We've made pretty good progress so far on that front. We're still expecting some things of Ben's from Harrisonburg that will be coming within the month, but the things we actually already have here have (for the most part) fallen into the right places. We still keep a running list of things we didn't realize we needed, and we have yet to hang up all of our art, but in just a week's time this place has really weaseled its way into my heart.

It's remarkable how different this move has been from my moves in college and even my initial move to Charlotte. In college, I was sharing a space with three girls (and for one great year, a french bulldog and a guinea pig as well) with vastly different lives. Moving in to each new space those four years was able making sure all our clothes fit in our closets, all the run-down college apartment appliances worked well enough, and that we could maximize our fun. Moving to Charlotte, the reason behind my move overshadowed the actual moving process: I was coming down to a new city to start my new job and new life.

This time around, the move has been more of a gradual process. There is ongoing excitement in addition to the obvious challenges that come with moving. This is the first time that I've lived somewhere where I've had free reign to control the decorating — this is thanks to sweet Ben who is very much in charge of our designated "music room." Of course Ben & I are partners in this, and it's been wonderful to have an entire space that's all ours to work with and start from scratch.

Maybe by this time next week, we'll have everything unpacked and tidy. Or maybe, more likely, we'll be doing little things here and there for a while before it truly feels like we're done. But one thing is for sure: we're well on our way.
