This blog is coming out early today because we have visitors coming tonight — so I figured what better blog post could I write than about preparing for their arrival. In a few short hours, some friends of ours are stopping through Charlotte on the first night of their band's tour. They'll be here less than 24 hours, but we're still very excited to see them. It's the first time Ben & I have had visitors in our new place and, let me tell you, if you ever want to make sure you unpack and tidy up quickly after a move: invite people over to stay with you.
We moved in exactly two weeks ago. As of my typing this, all of our things are unpacked except for what Ben will be getting from Harrisonburg when he goes up this weekend. It truly feels like home and we're very happy in this new space. Which is one reason, of many, why we're so excited to welcome people to it.
I've always thrown myself into the 'host' roll whenever I have guests staying with me. I got every ounce of that from my mom. It's just such a wonderful opportunity to welcome people into your home, into your space in your city and have the chance to show them around, help them have fun, and have a good time. This is only the second time that friends have come to visit us in Charlotte (cough cough, friends, come visit) so we're still figuring out all the best places to take people to show off the Queen City, but even when it's just interacting with people we've missed in the comfort of our living room, it's a treat to have loved ones share a space with you.
So for the next few hours we'll be making sure we've got air mattresses set up, planning what we'll do for food and making sure the place is clean so that when our friends arrive this afternoon, we're ready to drop everything and have a great time.
