THE BREEZE
AT JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
While at JMU, Emma spent a good chunk of her free time working with the student newspaper, The Breeze.
She wrote for The Breeze for almost two years before being promoted to News Editor in January of 2017, serving a term-and-a-half. Prior to being promoted, she was voted by the editors of her main section as Writer of the Year.
As a writer, she covered a variety of events such as the annual Relay for Life, reviewed restaurants, delved into personal features and covered sensitive material such as a vigil held in response to the white supremacy rally in Charlottesville.
As an editor, she made sure all news content for The Breeze was up to editorial standards as well as AP style. Additionally, she monitored the section's social media, managed a team of writers and designed print pages for the weekly print edition.
All of Emma's written work for The Breeze can be found here. Some of her print designs include a professor feature (page 4 & 5) and a feature on a local apple orchard (page 6 & 7).
