WXJM-FM
AT JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
While at JMU, Emma was a DJ and eventually committee head at the college radio station, WXJM-fm.
She started as a DJ at the beginning of her sophomore year, and hosted a weekly indie music show with a friend. She made sure to follow FCC regulations in addition to including new music within the genre to promote the artists.
For the last two years of her college career, she served on Second Line, a team of committee members within the station. She served on Web Team both years, while the position description changed between the two years.
The first year, Emma and a partner managed the back-end design work of the website and produced content for the web. During the second year, the WordPress-based website underwent a bit of reconstruction, adding several new pages to increase user-friendliness.
Additionally, to increase the amount of content on the website, WXJM added an intern team that, among other things, produced music-related content. Emma and her partner met with the interns twice a month to improve their blog-writing skills and to manage content. When Emma left, WXJM's site had at least one post a week, with two monthly themed articles: Intern-Picked Playlists and DJ of the Month Interviews.
Emma also created several graphics for the website, including headings for articles. One example of this work can be seen below.
